A Sabbatical Fit for a Carnivore Nonna: Holidays in Bella Italia! 🇼đŸ‡č

Ah, my dear carnivores, I am back! Did you miss me? Nonna needed a little break, a sabbatical, as the young people call it. But you know, when an Italian nonna takes a break, she does it with style, with joy, and, of course, with plenty of delicious, meaty delights!

I packed my bags—only the essentials, of course (which means good beef tallow and a few kitchen tools)—and took off for a holiday filled with adventure, good food, and breathtaking landscapes.

Day Trips to Feed the Soul (and the Stomach!)

The Amalfi Coast – A Feast for the Eyes and the Belly

Ah, Amalfi! The land where the sea sparkles like a diamond and the lemons grow as big as a bambino’s head! The tourists, they come for the view, but Nonna? Nonna comes for the seafood. And don’t you worry, I stayed faithful to my carnivore ways—grilled branzino, octopus cooked simply in bacon grease, and the most beautiful, buttery prawns you’ve ever tasted. Who needs pasta when you have the bounty of the sea?

Calabria – The Land of Peperoncino and Proud Meats

Now, if you know anything about Calabria, you know this is the land of spice, of fire, of passion! The ‘nduja? Ah, it sings to me! Spicy, spreadable pork sausage that I slathered on crispy pork rinds instead of bread—perfection. And let’s not forget soppressata and capocollo, cured meats that make you close your eyes and whisper, grazie, Dio!

The Swiss Alps – Meat, Cheese, and Snowy Bliss

Oh, my friends, let me tell you—there is nothing, nothing, like sitting in a cozy mountain chalet with a fireplace roaring, slicing into a big, juicy cîte de bƓuf, and watching the snow fall outside. The air is crisp, the mountains are grand, and the food? My kind of paradise. They have these bubbling pots of cheese, the fondue (made just for nonna with sodium citrate instead of flour!)—melted goodness perfect for dipping thin slices of steak instead of bread. Who says Nonna doesn’t know how to enjoy herself?

Viareggio – Seaside Luxury and Celebration

Viareggio, ah, my elegant little escape! Walking along the promenade, feeling the salty breeze, watching the yachts bob up and down—che bella vita! Here, I dined on Florentine steak, thick and perfectly rare, kissed by the flames of the grill. I sipped on a little red wine (because even a strict carnivore knows that in Italy, wine is practically a food group), and I toasted to the good life.

Staying Carnivore While Celebrating

Now, I know what you are thinking—Nonna, how did you resist the temptations? My dear ones, let me tell you a secret. When you eat the best, you don’t miss the rest. While others were stuffing themselves with pasta and pastries, I feasted on prosciutto, lamb chops, veal cutlets, and roasted bone marrow. I celebrated with feasts of roasted meats, slow-cooked oxtail, and crispy porchetta with that perfect crackling skin.

And let’s not forget the simplest pleasures—slices of lardo that melt on your tongue, handmade sausages sizzling on the grill, and a spoonful of butter swirled into a rich, beefy broth. This is how you celebrate like a carnivore and still feel like a queen.

Back to Work – The Carnivore Nonna Returns!

But now, my dears, I am back. The suitcase is unpacked, the knives are sharpened, and the kitchen is calling! There is work to be done, stories to tell, and recipes to share. This sabbatical has filled my heart with joy and my belly with inspiration.

So, prepare yourselves—Nonna is here, and the fire is back! More carnivore wisdom, more recipes, more of the good life—because food is not just fuel, it is love, it is tradition, it is the story we tell with every bite.
